  • User orientation to the Mastercam X style interface
  • Opening various CAD files in Mastercam
  • Zoom, Pan, and other functions of view manipulation
  • Various techniques for selecting and deleting entities
  • Creating 2D wireframe geometry such as point, lines, and arcs
  • Trimming, filleting, and chamfering of 2D wireframe geometry
  • Transforming 2D geometry functions such as move, copy, rotate, mirror image
  • Dimensioning, notes, and annotations for making a blueprint
  • Using attributes such as colors, levels, line styles, and line thickness to organize your part drawing and model
  • System configuration settings, and customizing toolbars and menus
  • Introduction to creating 3D wireframe geometry using various construction planes and Z depths

It is strongly recommended that the student have previous experience with the following:

  • Math, fractions, decimals, XYZ coordinates and the Cartesian coordinate system
  • Basic blueprint reading
  • Basic use of the Windows 7, Vista, or XP operating system including folder and file structure

Saturday Class:  Basic Mill

Students must attend 3 consecutive Saturday sessions.  Next Session: TBD.

3 sessions / $TBD.  Training manual is included.

  • Opening an existing mcx part model in Mastercam
  • Opening other file types in Mastercam: dwg, stp, igs, parasolid, sldprt, and others
  • Analyzing wire frame geometry and solid model features
  • Setting the machine type to mill and choosing a post processor
  • Aligning the part and setting a machining zero point
  • Tool Setting information and Stock Setup
  • Choosing a Tool Plane
  • Managing Tool Libraries and Material Libraries
  • Programming 2D machining operations such as contour, drill, pocket, face, circle mill, helix bore, thread mill, and slot mill
  • Chaining wire frame geometry to define a tool path
  • Chaining solid model edges and faces to define a tool path
  • 2-1/2D wireframe tool paths

  • Creating Planes, using Work Coordinate Systems, and Work Fixture Offsets
  • Copy, paste, setup sheets and other functions of the Operation Manager
  • Graphical visualization of tool path cycles using Back plot and Verify
  • Posting out a G-code program

PRE-REQUISITES: Introduction to Mastercam

It is strongly recommended that the student also have previous experience with the following:

  • Math, fractions, decimals, XYZ coordinates and the Cartesian coordinate system
